The Sisters of Mercy are committed to the spiritual growth of every community where they live and serve. Pastoral activities in both Alto Trujillo and Mache include books and materials for religious courses, retreats, First Communion celebrations, Bibles, Cursillos, and office supplies.
In Mache, two Sisters constantly visit the 12 surrounding villages, training and encouraging local pastoral leaders — people who often do not see a priest for weeks at a time. Each village has a chapel built by the community where Sunday services are led by these trained lay leaders.
Pastoral transportation is also funded by the Ministry — a 4-wheel drive vehicle and driver to navigate the unpaved mountain roads connecting Mache's remote communities.
I just could not tell you how much I appreciate having the funds to pay speakers for the continued formation of pastoral leaders. Without capable local leaders, the faith of these communities would have no one to guide it during the long weeks between priestly visits. — Sister Immaculata
