
President
Born in Trujillo, Peru, Gissela has been involved in clinical research since approximately 2008, bringing over 18 years of experience in advancing healthcare innovation. She serves as President of the Ministry and is deeply committed to its mission — especially in Alto Trujillo, where she believes education is a powerful tool that gives individuals the opportunity to change their future. She is continually inspired by the dedication of the Sisters of Mercy. Outside of her board responsibilities, Gissela enjoys spending time with her husband Mathew and son Cesar, dancing, baking, and being an active member of her parish community.

Vice President
A Mechanical Engineer turned entrepreneur who began building businesses at age 26, Renzo currently serves as Director for Advancoat, Advantech Group, and Automation International, LLC. He joined the board in 2023 after more than 15 years as a dedicated donor. As a native of Peru, he has visited the mission firsthand and seen the critical need to provide children with a safe, nurturing environment. Outside of his board responsibilities, he is a devoted parent to Tiago, a law student at the University of Florida, and Siena, a junior at St. John Paul II Academy. He enjoys mountain biking and restoring classic cars.

Secretary
Marie Parker spent 28 years in the banking industry before retiring to Boca Raton in 2012. Shortly after her arrival, she was introduced to the Ministry by a fellow parishioner and board member. Marie has served on the Board since 2014, holding several leadership positions including President. She currently serves as Secretary.

Treasurer
Treasurer since 2018. Board Member since 2017.

Director
Betty Heemskerk is the co-founder of the Ministry of the Good Shepherd, alongside her husband Ed Heemskerk. She has served on the board since the Ministry's inception in the early 1990s. Betty has held multiple leadership roles including President, and has made numerous trips to Alto Trujillo demonstrating her deep commitment to the communities it serves.

Director
Marjorie O'Sullivan joined the Ministry in 2005 and has served on the board ever since, holding the offices of President and Secretary numerous times. As one of the longest-serving members, she brings remarkable energy and a deep knowledge of the Ministry's history. A longtime friend of Sister Immaculata, Marjorie has visited the mission in Alto Trujillo 19 times.

Director
A Boca Raton resident for more than 36 years, Cristy earned her B.S. from Jacksonville University and spent 12 years in sales before becoming a Realtor — a role she has held for nearly 30 years. A longtime parishioner of St. Joan of Arc, she met Ministry founder Ed Heemskerk while teaching CCD, sparking her enduring commitment to Alto Trujillo. Cristy founded the “Send a Child to School” program within the Council of Catholic Women at St. Joan of Arc and has chaired the parish’s annual spaghetti dinner every year since 2010.

Director
Suzanne Heemskerk Homrich, daughter of founders Ed and Betty Heemskerk, has had a lifelong connection to the Ministry. Having grown up witnessing her parents' dedication to communities in Peru, the mission has always been close to her heart. Suzanne visited Alto Trujillo in 2016 and joined the board in 2025, bringing a deep personal commitment and a generational perspective to the Ministry's ongoing work.

Board Member at Large
A Marketing Manager for a top real estate team in Boca Raton, Veronica brings her marketing expertise to support the Ministry’s mission through initiatives and events that further its impact and outreach. With family roots in Peru, being part of a mission connected to her father’s upbringing is deeply meaningful. She is the proud mother of two boys who attend St. Joan of Arc Catholic School in Boca Raton, and outside of her professional and volunteer work she and her boys enjoy CrossFit and running.
